Consultation & Fertility Assessment in London

Expert female specialists guiding your first step with care

At Alma Fertility, your journey begins with a personalised consultation and assessment in our London clinic. Our female fertility specialists take time to understand your medical history, circumstances, and goals, creating a tailored treatment plan that combines expert medical care with compassionate support from the very first step.

What is a Fertility Consultation?

A fertility consultation, sometimes referred to as a fertility MOT or fertility check-up, is a comprehensive appointment with a fertility specialist. It gives you the opportunity to discuss your health, history, and goals, and allows us to identify any factors that might be affecting your ability to conceive.

Unlike a general health check, a fertility consultation is highly focused on reproductive wellbeing, exploring issues such as menstrual health, ovulation, sperm quality, hormonal balance, and lifestyle influences.

What Does a Fertility Assessment Include?

A fertility assessment at Alma Fertility is tailored to your personal circumstances, but it often includes:

  • Medical history review – covering your menstrual cycle, gynaecological history, sexual health, previous pregnancies or treatments, and relevant medical conditions.

  • Ultrasound scan – an internal scan to assess the ovaries, ovarian reserve, womb lining (endometrium), and general reproductive anatomy.

  • Blood tests – hormone testing such as AMH (anti-Müllerian hormone), FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone), LH (luteinising hormone), oestradiol, progesterone, prolactin, and thyroid function tests.

  • Partner assessment – semen analysis to measure sperm count, motility, and morphology (if applicable).

  • Treatment discussion – clear advice on whether natural conception is likely, or whether options such as ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination (IUI), IVF, ICSI, or egg freezing may be recommended.

Why is a Fertility Consultation Important?

There are many factors that can influence fertility — including age, egg and sperm health, ovulation, and underlying medical conditions. A fertility consultation helps to:

  • Identify potential barriers to conception early.
  • Provide reassurance and expert answers to your questions.
  • Guide you towards the most effective fertility treatments.

Empower you with knowledge and clear next steps.

Who Should Book a Fertility Consultation?

A fertility consultation is recommended if you:

  • Have been trying to conceive naturally for over 12 months (or 6 months if over 35).

  • Have irregular or absent menstrual cycles.

  • Have experienced recurrent pregnancy loss.

  • Have been diagnosed with conditions such as PCOS, endometriosis, or fibroids.

  • Have a medical history that could affect fertility (e.g. cancer treatment, autoimmune conditions).

  • Want reassurance before starting a family in the future.

  • Are considering fertility preservation options like egg freezing.
