I had a really positive experience with Dr Bora during my IVF treatment. As this was my third cycle (twice with a different provider), I had a clear basis for comparison, and this cycle felt noticeably more seamless and efficient than my previous experiences. I felt consistently reassured and well cared for, with excellent communication at every stage. Dr Bora’s holistic approach to care, aimed at maximising the chances of success, was something I really appreciated and I’m sure it contributed to a more favourable outcome compared to my previous cycles

Even though I’m older now, it was also really refreshing and encouraging to need fewer medications than I did during my first IVF cycles 2 years ago, which made the overall burden feel much lighter.

The clinic itself at LIPS Healthcare was calm, welcoming, and beautifully designed which made the experience somewhat easier.

Having my FET with Dr. Bora, five years after my embryo collection, was a meaningful full-circle experience. After two unsuccessful transfers with other providers abroad, returning to her brought renewed hope. Her guidance from overseas was seamless, and her mix of expertise and practical support made the process genuinely positive. We are now thrilled to be expecting our baby boy.

Freezing my eggs was something I’d put off for a long time, but the team made the entire journey surprisingly empowering. I felt informed, supported, and respected at every stage. I’ve just finished three egg-collection cycles with Dr Kate Maclaran and Dr Shabana Bora at LIPS Battersea, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for better care.

From my first consultation, I felt seen and heard. Their bedside manner was spot on, warm, calm, reassuring and they very clear on what to expect (optimistic and realistic!). They explain everything in plain English which is really helpful especially because this process can be full of medical jargon (so I could finally stop late-night Googling). I never felt silly for asking questions (and I asked a lot). 

What really made a difference was how they tweaked the plan for each of my cycles. We looked at my results, they refined the meds and timings, and the results improved. It felt thoughtful and personalised.

I’m over 40, and really appreciate their ethos of helping you on yourfertility journey and their belief in giving women a chance at this stage in life. You can feel how invested they are in their patients and how committed they are to high standards of care and support.

They even signposted me to a brilliant fertility acupuncturist, which became a really helpful add-on for me.

If you’re thinking about treatment at any age, I’d highly recommend this team.

My journey to being 16 weeks pregnant has been a long one and we might not have made it to this point without the guidance and empathy shown by Dr Bora. From the beginning I had a low ovarian reserve – but we managed to get to blastocyst. That wasn’t successful. An issue was then discovered with my partner and Dr Bora guided him to a urologist who was experienced, and dealt with the issue over the course of a twelve month period with compassion, and humour making the process less intrusive. After professional counselling, we came to the decision with Dr Bora’s gentle guidance that the best option was to use an egg donor which leads us to where we are. Throughout Dr Bora has shown not only expertise and professionalism but compassion and empathy coming from her own experiences. All of the nursing staff that engaged with me were equally straightforward and good humoured, happy to answer questions I sometimes felt silly to ask.

No one really prepares you for what fertility issues (and potential infertility) will feel like. As a relatively young and healthy woman (just turned 36), I thought the standard husband, house and two kids were all a part of my near future – I had just been proposed to and was planning my wedding. All was good. Or so I thought… until the last couple of months sent my life into a spiral. 

What I thought was a gym injury turned into an unsuspected diagnosis of deep infiltrating endometriosis, which had spread its way into my bowel, created large cysts on each ovary, and left my ovaries stuck together in what is affectionately called “kissing ovaries”. As it turned out, I needed a major surgery to fix this mess, and needed it soon – and because of the risk of ovarian damage during the procedure, I needed my eggs frozen beforehand. 

I knew nothing about egg freezing before this – nothing at all. I walked into a fertility clinic on the first day for my first appointment absolutely clueless, burst dramatically into tears as soon as I sat down, and in between hiccups explained that I had never had sex before so wasn’t able to have internal scans, and also couldn’t financially afford this. 

The woman sitting in front of me – who turned out to be Dr Shabana Bora – listened calmly and patiently. No rushing, no judging. She didn’t jump to take my last remaining pennies as private clinics often do – she talked me through the pros and cons of egg freezing, laid out other options for me (I ended up going with embryo freezing), discussed the financial breakdown and comparisons in detail so there were no nasty scares and additional costs. 

I started the process – we didn’t have long to get everything turned around before my surgery, but she worked around the clock and out of hours to ensure every single thing I needed was put into place. She communicated with me constantly, making no question seem silly, and worked around my irrational fear of internal scans without making me feel like a liability. It felt like I gained another friend along the way – someone who was genuinely truly rooting for things to work out for me. 

Trust me, I have seen numerous horror videos on TikTok of girls who end up without limbs – or any babies – after forking out tens of thousands of pounds for their egg freezing. I can honestly tell you, there was not a moment during my journey at Alma Fertility based at LIPS Healthcare in Battersea and the Lister Hospital, Chelsea where I thought I couldn’t trust the people caring for me, from the doctors to the anaesthetist to the nurses who took my bloods every 2 days. Up until the very last moment where I went for my egg retrieval, I knew every single person there would look after me. Dr Bora worked with Dr Mohamed Khalil from the Lister Fertility Clinic for my retrieval – another Godsend – and I have not even taken a single painkiller since the procedure 36 hours ago. 

I wouldn’t wish fertility issues on any woman, but for those who do find themselves facing this path, I wish every single one of them would have an experience like I did at Alma Fertility. “
